Order & Structure II

Andrew Lucia for LabStudio. This project was undertaken in part through the BreadBoard Artist in Residency program in conjunction with NextFab Studio.

Research undertaken to determine the underlying spatial structure of surface deformation intensities. Once removed from their metric spaces, the underlying curvatures of objects and environments may further be examined abstractly or remapped to other metrics or coordinate systems.

These new readings of the object removed from its metric space allows for insights into the underlying order and disorder associated with the object or environment's curvature intensities or rates of change.

curvature diagrams

Deformed Torus. Underlying curvature diagrams with implied surface.  Renderings of digital model and point cloud.

wood carvings

Curvature intensities mapped to a plane. Curvature of cell cluster (left) & deformed torus (right). Milled plywood, 30in x 30in.

**Very special thanks to everyone at BreadBoard and NextFab Studio.**
